When you drop your daughter off please plan to sign her in for permission to keep her.  If your daughter does not want to spend the whole night, that is perfectly fine!  We want to make this event as welcoming as possible, feel free to pick her up when needed.  We are looking forward to a fun event together!
We are also making this a charity event with a NON-FOOD DRIVE. The girls are in charge of how involved they personally want to be for this. We are asking the girls to bring any Donated Non-Food items to be shared with the Food Bank the night of the sleepover. Thank for all your support!

A VOTE IS NEEDED
Something to put out there… we have in the past been apart of the Light Parade in Rock Spings.  It is Saturday December 6th this year.  We do not have the resources yet to do this like we have in the past.  So, we are putting it to a vote.  How many people would like to be in the parade as a troop?  If so, we are in need of help using a truck/trailer to be in the parade. We will then have to plan decorations on our December 2nd Meeting then meet again before to actually decorate the vehicle.  We have had a lot of fun in the past & had a warm place to decorate (we no longer do), though it has not been our best turn out with the girls. Please talk to your girls, look at your schedules and give Jill a Yes or No by next Monday the 24th so that we can start planning if needed.  THANK YOU!

We want to thank everyone who helped with the Veterans Day Dinner. We had a great time, Thank You! We appreciate everyone who helped bring something, who helped serve and who used their good manners. You all did a Wonderful Job!  We look forward to this event again next year; we are honored to serve our Veterans!

Fall Fundraiser:
Our nut/candy delivery should be in ANY day.
We will not get much notice for delivery.
So please keep that in mind if your girl has orders.
We will be contacting you sometime this week to pick those up.
ALL MONEY is DUE to Jill by December 5th, 2014.
THANK YOU!!!!

Reminder we will not be having an actual troop meeting until the 18th. Since we are hosting the Vetrans Dinner. We are asking our girls to help Serve at the Vetrans Dinner on Monday the 10th at the Senior Center here in Green River.

The Cadette troop recorded the ads for the radio and you should be hearing them through the weekend. The dinner is for any vetran and their families. Please spread the word to have them join us for this free dinner from 6pm to 8pm.  Our cute daisy troops even decorated the place mats!

Cadette troop will be in charge of the flag Ceremony. For us Juniors we are in charge of Salad and Ranch dressing to go along with it. If you would like to donate Salad or Dressing that would be much appreciated. Please let us know if you would be willing to bring something.

As leaders we will be there at 4:30 prepping and ask the girls to arrive at 5:30 to 5:45pm in uniform. Please talk to your girls about etiquette if possible. We will have a quick discussion about etiquette with serving instructions before the dinner starts.

The Green River Girl Scouts are honored to host this event each year for our amazing service men and women. Thank you all for your support and we look forward to seeing everyone on Monday!

Troop Meeting Dates: October 14th & 28th, November 11th & 18th

Fall Fundraiser Starts October 11th!
We know that this is a hard time of year for fundraisers. A lot is going on with school and other events. But, this is a good way to help us jump start our year. Also, if anyone is in need of financial support for Girl Scouts, they will be looking to see if you have participated in this event. There is an option for some cute photo books in this Fall Fundraiser. This is a new option; you purchase it upfront but have a year to make it. As a troop we will be making a book and then you will have an option later to buy our troops photo book when completed. This option gives our troop even more support. We are encouraging everyone to use the online option for ordering. It can be more efficient for processing and there are even more options for candy/nuts online.  So some key points: Orders Start October 11th and NO SOONER.  Sales End October 26th and are due to Jill on October 27th.  Money is due upfront for magazines and photo books. Money is collected for nuts/candy upon delivery. The nuts/candy should be here before Thanksgiving for delivery. All money is due to Troop by December 5th, 2014. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask!

We wanted to invite you to Trunk Or Treating with Green River this Saturday at 11am-1pm. Jill is going to this event and is happy to have the troop accompany her. Please RSVP to Jill by Friday if you would like to attend. She will then let you know information for meeting arrangements.

Update on Uniforms and Books. We ordered them the day after our last meeting. We have not had them arrive yet.  I did get an email that the white shirts may be taking more time than normal or arrive.  Hopefully they show up soon!

We had a fun time making our aprons last meeting and are looking forward to using them when we make paper this next meeting. Please have your girl bring some scrap/garbage papers we will be reusing to make our paper. The more colorful the paper the better, please not newspapers for this activity. We will start talking about recycling/reusing materials and how it saves us energy. Which will then lead into our next outing of visiting the Green River Recycle Center. We have not been able to plan that exact date yet. We will keep you posted when they get back to us.  Thanks for all your Support!

We hope you have a good evening at our Investiture and Rededication. Thank you for Attending!

Welcome to the 2014-2015 Girl Scout Year!

Hello EVERYONE!
Junior Girl Scout Troop 1256
First Meeting/Parent Information
Tuesday September 23rd, 2014
Leader: Jill Schmidt   #307-871-0704
Co-Leader: Tanya Sorrells  #307-871-6023
Co-Leader: Megan Nielsen   #801-837-8690

We will be having our Troop meetings from 4pm-6pm at Mansface Church on Tuesdays. We will basically hold troop meetings every other Tuesday of each month. Those dates will be updated regularly on our Troop blog so please be aware all information we can give will be easily accessible to girls/parents, please check this blog regularly. You can sign up for email notifications for when the Troop blog is updated. We will do our best to keep all Green River Service Unit events updated here also.

We will continue to provide updated/short notice information via text messaging. Please make sure we have current contact information with a primary contact number.  On the flip side, please don’t hesitate to contact any of us with questions or concerns.

Some Troop Expectations: As we welcome these girls into Juniors there are some expectations that they need to be aware of. The girls need to start being more responsible/involved with each passing year in Girls Scouts. Keeping that in mind, we need to be having the girls in uniform for our meetings. We are not going to be strict, but a reward system will be established to reinforce this. Basic Uniform: Junior Sash or Vest with a white shirt under paired with a tan/khaki pant or skirt. If we are doing a community event, uniform is required. We want to represent Girl Scouts respectfully.

We ask girls to come and be ready to be involved. We try to make every event fun… but there are things we do need to accomplish at each meeting.  Girls need to be respectful and prepared to start our meetings.  We start each meeting with our promise/law and anything else the girls establish. We will end each meeting with a friendship circle.  The girls are expected to learn, know and hopefully life the Girl Scout Promise and Law.

Dues:  We are asking for 5 dollars a month in dues for our 9 months of troop meetings.  If you want to pay in one lump sum for the year your grand total is $45.00.  Cookies make our activities possible, but they do not cover everything for our supplies.

Book/Uniform: The start up kits for Juniors is running $50.00 per girl. That is for a sash, council patch, flag, troop number, book, Journey book, bag, insignia tab/pins.  We are going to be doing the Get Moving Journey this year.  We are happy to order these kits all at once or you can go to GSMW.ORG and shop yourself.  You will need to get this as soon as possible if we do not order it for you.

Investiture Date: Tuesday October 7th from 6-7pm at the Green River High School. This is our rededication ceremony that we all do as a Service Unit.
Next Troop Meeting Dates: October 14th and October 28th.

A GREAT BIG...

THANK YOU! For everyone's help and support through this cookie season. I cannot express enough how grateful we are to all the girls and parents for your hard work!  We have basically sold out of cookies except for a few straggling Tagalongs and Do-si-does.  If you have not turned in your cookies money to Tanya already, you must do so TODAY!  Since our troop meeting was postponed last week(totally my bad, I was sick) to this week. You have a great opportunity to catch us at the meeting.   Cookies are a lot of work, the girls learn loads of wonderful things and it makes a big difference for our troop. So again, Thank You!

I need to apologize for not being diligent about updating this the last month... I have had internet issues that have now been resolved.

We have lots of information for everyone with upcoming events. We have some awesome things still in store for our troop.

Dates to Remember:

Mom and Me Tea: has been moved to May 2nd @ 6pm-8pm being held at the Senior Center.
Arbor Day: May 3rd @ Collier Park we think the time is 10 am, but that still needs confirmation.
Green River Girl Scouts are donating three trees this year.  Come help us celebrate this wonderful day!
City Clean Up: May 10th @ 8 am @ Green River Chamber.  This is our last big event to finish up the Girl Scout Ways Patch. We would love to see everyone there. If your girl need a ride, please let me or Tanya know. Once we arrive and register we will be told where to go help.

Bridging Ceremony: May 17th @ Noon (location still to be determined)  This is the transition for the girls to move up to the next level and celebrate their accomplishments this last year. Lunch will be served.

 Troop Meetings:
Counting today we have only three troop meetings left for this season.
April 15th, April 29th & May 13th.
TBA: We will be planning a few Summer events, we were hoping for one fun event a month to keep the girls connected over the summer. These will also be part of their reward/goal for our awesome cookies season.

Early Registration
With the end of our Girl Scout Season wrapping up... we need to start thinking about next year.  Early Girl Scout Registration is upon us. For the girls who want to continue in scouting next year we are happy to take care of this early registration for them.
For any parent/adults who would like to help out more we would love to have you register also. By registering you do not necessarily have to lead a troop(unless you want to be that wonderfully involved!). By registering you would be covered to help chaperone for events, fill in at meetings when one leader cannot attend, driving to events and/or helping with cookies. By being a registered adult in Girl Scouts you can help as little or as much as you would like.  It is something to think about as your daughter continues on this journey in Girl Scouts.
Please let us know as soon as possible if you would like your daughter preregistered for next year. Even if you are unsure about next years plans, I highly recommend you have us preregister your daughter. It is always up to your daughter how involved in scouting she wants to be when the time comes.

Lastly, our troop currently has eight girls, six of which will be bridging up to the Cadette level. That leaves two girls at the Junior level for one more year. Typically with Girl Scouts as leaders we would bridge up with our girls and continue on this path with them. Because of our small service unit, the needs for all the troops are still being addressed. Once we have a for sure Early Registration count on the girls, we will determine what direction is best for the troop/girls. If you have any questions or concerns on this matter. Please talk to us, we would love your feedback.

Thank you everyone for being so fabulous. We love you all and look forward to seeing you SOON!

UPDATE on COOKIES!

COOKIES ARE ARRIVING ON MONDAY MARCH 17th!

When the truck arrives, we will unload all the cookies. We leaders will separate them into troops and then we will be able to send word that you can come pick up your daughters individual orders. You will help sort and count out each order so you are confident we have your accurate order.  Look forward to seeing you all Monday at the Lee's house. (1255 Fawn Circle)

Facebook & Girl Scout Week

If anyone is interested there is a private group on Facebook for Green River Girl Scouts.  They have posted pictures of our Service Unit Activities if anyone is interested in joining.
Ice Skating @Rock Springs Rec Center Jan 25th, 2014
This of course is Girl Scout Week, where we get to celebrate the first Girl Scout Meeting held March 12th, 1912.  In celebration our service unit put together a basket to donate to the first baby girl born this week @ Memorial Hospital.  When this was decided we had already planned out our troop activities and did not bring this to the girls to help put together. I did mention it to the girls last troop meeting, but we decided to not ask for more from you all at this time. We did donate from our troop diapers, wipes, a baby bunny hat/mittens, mitten clips and baby wash.

A last minute idea for a  picture to be taken before taking the basket over happened last Saturday. I think we managed to get a girl from every troop represented.  We are proud to announce that a sweet baby girl was born Sunday March 9 @ 7:25pm. Little Baby Harper is the winner of our baby basket! She is cute as a button and just happens to be a cousin of one of our Green River Girl Scouts! Congratulations to Harper and her Family!

COOKIES ARE COMING!

Pick Up For Cookies:
1255 Fawn Circle in Green River

We should have confirmation today sometime when cookies will be arriving. They will be here by the end of the week. It is very important that you are flexible and pick up your cookies the day they arrive  You will be counting and signing a receipt for the cookies you pick up to make sure everything is accurate. You will also sign a receipt when money is turned in for the same reasons.

We have signed up for Cookie Booth dates, please save these dates:

March 11th, Troop Meeting

We will be doing something different this next week for our meeting.  Starting Sunday the 10th is Girl Scout Week.  It is Girl Scouts way of celebrating it's Birthday, which is officially March 12th.  The very first Girl Scout meeting was held on March, 12th in Savannah, GA.  We are going to have a party at my house to help celebrate the birth of Girl Scouting. (This way we can have an intimate gathering without making a mess at the church)  It will still be at our new normal time, 5:15-6:45 pm.

Address of event:
1730 Idaho St #3
GR, WY
We will be watching a video about Juliette Low, The founder of Girl Scouts, while comparing scouting then and now.  Also, some fun birthday activities to help celebrate the event.  I have sent out official birthday invitations to the girls.  We look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday and having a party together!

Troop Meeting Today!

Hello Troop!

Today we will be working on our last art project for the Drawing Patch.  We will be putting them all together after this and sending your girls art work home.  Not all the girls have enjoyed this patch as much as we thought, though we have done some difficult concepts about perspective and such.  We have really tried to get the girls to know that is alright. It's not about liking everything we do, it is about trying new things and being open minded about them.  We have had some issues with the girls just wanting to play around and not being respectful. We have talked about this numerous times... please help us to get the point across that it is not ALL fun and games at girls scouts. We do have things that need to be accomplished so that they are exposed to as many new adventures as possible in our short time together.  We are not as strict about things in our troop as we could be.  We do not want to be, but we do need to have them willing to get things done and respectful of us leaders and each other.  We want everyone to have a positive experience at scouts!

We are going to need to change the time of girl scouts a bit. We are going to move our time up by 15 minutes. We are overlapping with the Boy Scouts at 7 when we leave and it is becoming a challenge to end our meetings. So our new meeting times will be 5:15-6:45 pm.  Thank you for being understanding!

All Cookie Orders at DUE TODAY!  I have to have them all to council tomorrow.  PLEASE bring a copy of your Drivers license with your orders today. We can not put in your daughters orders without it. THANK YOU!  Hope you have all had a great couple weeks selling and look forward to delivering those cookies in March.

Cookies!

Welcome To The 2014 Girl Scout Cookie Season!

Thank You for everyone who made it to the Cookie Rally last night. We truly appreciate all your time!  I think we got off on the right foot and I am totally pumped to see all the amazing things the girls are going to accomplish!  Cookies support our troop on the day to day... we can do more because of cookies! Every box counts! Thank you!

*Remember girls cannot sell without parental permission, so if you did not make it to the cookie kick off. You will need to meet with me to sign the permission slip and get the cookie packet.

A few things to remember:
Girls must be accompanied by an adult if selling door to door.
Girls need to represent Girl Scouts and be wearing their uniforms.
Payment for cookies are due upon delivery.

So, I spent a chunk of my morning making sure the girls were all set up in our Cookie Club website. This is a great online tool for the girls to reach more people in a convenient way. This is my first year using this program and both of my girls scouts seem to like it already. It seems very user friendly.

FYI: If people donate cookies online in our gift of caring program. They will be sending cookies to local cancer/chemo clinics for patients to enjoy while getting chemo. They have found that the thin mints settle upset stomachs. These boxes will go directly to council. If you have people donate on the normal order form we will be giving those cookies to our local VFW.

Tanya was going to text everyone their log in information. But, I can post the general info here.

You access cookie club by going to this site:
  https://cookieclub.littlebrownie.com

Your log in is your daughter name(lowercase)and our troop number.
Your password is your daughters name with the first letter capitalized and first initial of her last name(This last name initial is also capitalized).  Example:  Login: megan1256   Paswrd: MeganN
The program did a couple odd things.
Lauren: You have two ones for your troop number 11256
Emily: Since you go by your middle name you will need to type in your first and middle name together as your log in and the name you go by is your password.

I hope that Cookie Club is a helpful tool for everyone! If you have any questions please let Tanya or I know. We are so happy to help you find the answer.

There are some great tools for your girls online, I suggest:

Little Brownie Baker
http://www.littlebrowniebakers.com   They have the link to cookie club, the cookie app and lots of helpful information, activities for girls and families.

Helpful and fun suggestions for Selling Cookies(lots of good stuff here, even more order forms to download if needed):

We are setting our Troop Cookie Goal at 2500 boxes. That is close to the average of what the girls decided in our meeting.

Important Dates:
Feb 17th: Last day to sell cookies!
Feb 18th:  Troop Meeting and all Orders are due to Leaders:
Cookies will arrive sometime after March 11th. We will update you all on this as it gets closer and we know more. It is vital that you pick up cookies the day they are delivered!  We are very lucky to have someone donating their personal space for cookie delivery but all cookies need to be out of their garage by end of day! You must be flexible as possible with this week and we will do our best to inform you with as much notice as possible! THANK YOU!

Our Girls are so Awesome! I hope that they are excited to sell and reach our goal so we can have some awesome events in our future together.  2014 Cookies will help our troop to grow in so many ways!  So... have a great time out there!
