Lots of Firsts, First Aid Badge

Today was my first meeting with the Troop and it was an absolute joy to meet all the girls finally!  We started off the meeting by establishing the Kaper Chart and rules on how our meetings are going to flow.  A Kaper Chart is a job chart basically. The girls agreed that we will be adding the following responsibilities to the Kaper Chart:  Opening Song Leader, Friendship Leader, Snacks, Promise Leader, Pledge Leader, Cleanup Leader and One Good Thing Moment.   They will rotate responsibilities and have a chance to do all of them.  We talked about snacks being their responsibility to bring and share. We will get something to pass around so that they remember to bring something when it's their turn. We talked about this being a privileged and if they cannot clean up after themselves and be responsible, we will take away snacks.

We moved on to talk about all the upcoming events. Because the Sleepover was moved up we opened up the option to attend the light parade on the 7th of December. The majority wanted to attend so we will be going to that as a troop.  We will get more information to you all next week about when and where we will need to be for that, but do save the date.

We also talked about their need to memorize the Girl Scout Law and Promise.  I will post them here and it is in their books. Or you can find it on the Girl Scout website.   Once they can pass off both the law and promise to me starting next week, I will give them a reward.

We talked about the Donation Drive more and since it is such short notice we will not be working on that as a troop. We do encourage the girls to get out and spread the word to family, neighbors and friends about the drive. All Essential, Non-Food Items items will need to be dropped off the night of the sleepover at the church.  We talked about them always being a girl scout and what that means. If they have a sash/vest they should be wearing it when representing anything for girl scouts.  It is not a big rush, be the girls will need to attain their girl scout vest and troop numbers in the near future. All items can be purchased on the Girl Scout website.  http://gsmw.org/  click on the shop button OR

I will post a picture of the uniform for reference. If you need some help, let us know.

We had LOTS of information for them today... it was a bit overwhelming at first.  We were eventually able to move on to our activity. We started working on the First Aid Badge. We have five main things they need to accomplish to attain this Legacy Badge.  We talked about basic first aid and made first aid kits today. One down, four to go.  They did a great job and were very smart when asked about what they should do in an emergency.  We finished off our meeting with a friendship circle for the first time. It was great to be together as a troop today. Thank you so much for this opportunity to help lead your girls. It is a lot of work to volunteer to be a leader, but it is so going to be so much fun watching them take on more responsibilities and grow in this Girl lead journey.
